The Planning and Development Act, 2007 is the provincial legislation which enables the Rural Municipality of Calder No. 241, under the guidance of the Planning Department, to utilize a variety of documents to administer land use, development, zoning and subdivision.

Official Community Plans, Zoning Bylaws and Zoning Maps and other planning policies are some of the documents used in the planning and development process.

ZONING BYLAW - General InformationThe purpose of this Bylaw is to regulate development in The Rural Municipality of Calder No. 241 so as to provide for the amenity of the area and for the health, safety and general welfare of the inhabitants of the Municipality. The intent of this Bylaw is to enable Council to manage land use, the provision of services and the natural environment within the Municipality.

Development shall hereafter be permitted within the limits of The Rural Municipality of Calder No. 241 only when in conformity with the provisions of this Bylaw.

The R.M. of Calder No. 241 supports a diverse array of land use options with regulations in place to ensure ratepayers are able to enjoy the rural quality of life.

Whether you are constructing a residence on your land, renovating an existing building, operating a home based business, constructing a commercial or industrial building, or operating an intensive livestock operation, a number of permits and approvals may be required prior to beginning your project.

BUILDING PERMITSOnce a development permit is obtained, the homeowner is required to submit an application to build. The application is sent to the RM's Building Inspector to satisfy legislated building code requirements.

DEVELOPMENT PERMIT - RES ZoneOur zoning bylaw requires that any person wishing to construct, alter, excavate, demolish must first obtain a development permit from the RM.

GRAVEL PIT DEVELOPMENT PERMITAny person wish to start up a gravel pit must first obtain a development permit & excavation license from RM.
